How to get there

Plan your arrival

Fly to Traverse City (TVC)

Cherry Capital Airport is the closest airport, with connecting flights via Detroit or Chicago. Downtown Traverse City is about 3 miles (5 km) away, a 10–15 minute drive.

Uber, Lyft, taxi or BATA bus

Uber, Lyft or a local taxi takes about 10–15 minutes and costs roughly $15–25, easy to share for 2–3 people. The cheaper BATA bus (Route 14) runs from the terminal to downtown for about $1–2 during the day.

Or fly to Grand Rapids (GRR)

Gerald R. Ford International Airport is a larger airport about 140 miles (225 km) south of Traverse City, roughly 2.5 hours by car.

Indian Trails bus from Grand Rapids

Take Uber or Lyft (about 20 minutes, roughly $25–35) to the Grand Rapids bus station. The Indian Trails bus runs once a day to downtown Traverse City, takes about 4 hours and costs about $30–50. Plan your flight around the bus time.

Requirements & first days

  1. Advanced English for interacting with customers.
  2. A positive, friendly, customer-oriented attitude.
  3. Duties: register transactions, helping customers with merchandise, stocking shelves and displays, and keeping the displays and sales floor clean.
  4. Uniform: bring comfortable shoes and appropriate-length bottoms. The employer provides a work t-shirt.
  5. Grooming: you must be presentable and clean.
  6. Getting to work: you walk or ride a bike, about 1 mile from housing. No transportation cost.
  7. Bring the $250 housing deposit. It is due when you arrive.
  8. About seven days after you check into the program you apply for a Social Security card. You can start working before you receive it.
